Dear Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the public holiday last Friday for ANZAC Day and the short
week coming back to school after the Easter break.
I’d like to thank Janelle Breheny for representing our staff at the ANZAC Day service
in Churchill on Friday with our Year 6 captains who I am told did an exceptional job
with their speeches and represented our school beautifully. Janelle said that we had
a number of people approach her to comment on how well our captains spoke about
what ANZAC Day means to them. Thank you to the parents who helped at home
prepare the children to give their speeches. I feel very proud to know that our school
was represented so well on the day. Well done to our captains.
We also had a number of children represent the school at District Cross Country last
week, I believe Billy Breheny will be going through to the next round. Congratulations
to Billy!
This week, we will be enjoying the “Backflips Against Bullying” performance at
school. This was a hugely popular production with our children last year and I know
they will enjoy it again this year. It’s such an important topic to cover in schools and
this company do a wonderful job at engaging all ages across the school in
conversation around bullying, how to recognise it and what to do if they, or someone
else are the victim of bullying.
Next week, we have our Mother’s Day breakfast, mass and the mother’s day stall.
Please remember to pay your money to CDF pay so that children can purchase
something special for their mum or special person in their life.
With the death of Pope Francis being across the world news at the moment, I know
many people will have tuned in or seen parts of his funeral service and the
outpouring of love for the leader of the Catholic Church. Like many other people, I
streamed the movie, “Conclave” over the weekend, which is meant to be a very
accurate depiction of the process that the Cardinals will go through to elect our next
Pope. I am sure we all have our opinions about what we see as important for the
future of the Catholic Church. I hope our school community will join me in praying
that the decision that is made is in consideration of what our greatest needs are
moving forward and that the Holy Spirit is at work.
Have a wonderful week ahead,
Sally
