Remote Learning 2.0: Term 3 2020

On 2 August 2020, The Hon. Daniel Andrews, Premier of Victoria declared a State of Disaster and announced that Stage 3 ‘Stay at Home’ restrictions will be reinstated across regional Victoria from 11:59 pm on Wednesday 5 August 2020.

From Thursday 6th August Lumen Christi will begin Remote Learning.  Our procedures will be similar to those we implemented during RL1.0 apart from a few details that are listed in the below Frequently Asked Questions sheet that was distributed to families.

Remote Learning 1.0: Term 1 & 2 2020

In March the Premier Daniel Andrews announced that Victorian students would commence the Term 1 school holiday period four days earlier.  This time would allow school staff to work to develop plans for schooling for Term 2 in the event that Remote Learning would need to take place.  At Lumen Christi we created a three-phase model to deal with the escalation of restrictions placed upon the community.

Phase 1: Final week of Term 1 - Students commence school holidays earlier than planned.  All students continue to access to online learning platforms.

Phase 2: Initial weeks of Term 2 - Students commence learning tasks and activities provided by the school at the end of term in the blue 'showbags'.  Students commence accessing familar online learning platforms that they already use in class, (eg. Reading Eggs, MangaHigh, SplashLearn) including Google Classroom which will serve as key communication tool in the Remote Learning environment.

During this time parents are asked to spend some time establishing routines, working around organisational issues in the home that will help or hinder Remote Learning and importantly spend some time looking at the great resources that have been created about Online Safety. The eSafety website has terrific resources for parents, children as well as things you could do together.

The DOSCEL document shared on other pages on this section of the website is important for parents to be aware of.

Phase 3: Sustained Remote Learning - Staff will be working with families to create procedures for all students to continue to access learning opportunities.  Families will be provided with a weekly program, which a daily sheet explaining the task and helpful instructional points for parents.  The Remote Learning plans are a blend of activities that are both offonline and online.  A key tool will be the GAFE (Google Apps for Education) products that will be used for communication as well as for students to publish and share tasks with staff.

Teachers will have these packages ready for collection fortnightly on Thursdays from the school.
